Everyday Materials

Year 1 explore different materials and using their observations to distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made. The children enjoy carrying out experiments to describe the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials, using language such as waterproof, opaque, and transparent.

Animals

The children are learning to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. During our trip to Lakes Wildlife Park, they were enjoying recalling the information from their learning when looking at animals first hand.  Their favourite activity included dissecting animal poo (play dough) to identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
