Easter Cards

 

To make their Easter cards Nursery 2s used a cotton bud to dip in different coloured paints and create a pattern on the eggs. Well done Nursery 2s your cards look wonderful.

Butterflies

Reception have been decorating their own Butterflies. They had a range of different things they could use to decorate them with. We talked about Butterflies being symmetrical and some children folded theirs in half to make them the same. They all look Beautiful! Well Done Reception!

Chinese Lanterns

The Nursery 3s children created their own Chinese lanterns using paint sticks, crayons, felt tips and collage materials. They used the glue sticks competently to stick the collage materials on!

Chinese Dragons

Nursery 3's have been learning about Chinese New Year. We watched a video on Chinese new year celebrations and talked about aspects such as the parade and dragon dancing. We then created our own dragon pictures by using pipettes to squeeze out paint (developing fine motor skills) then folding the paper over to create a symmetrical design.

Cherry Blossom Trees

Nursery 3's have been learning about Chinese New Year and  read the story “I Love New Year.” The story talked about the pink cherry blossoms representing health. The children created their own cherry blossom trees by using fingers to do finger prints onto the tree branches. These look excellent! 

Valentines Day Cards

Reception created their own Valentines cards for the person that they love. They wrote inside their own cards to make it their own. Whilst making them, we talked about who we love and why. Well Done Reception!

Valentines Day Cards

Nursery 2s have been busy making valentines cards for their loved ones, they made some good Love Monsters. 

Colouring

Nursery 2s sat for a long time colouring in pictures of Goldilocks and the three bears. They took their time and coloured in very carefully I was very impressed.

Bears

Nursery 2s have been creating their own bear faces using a fork to spread the paint around the paper. They then stuck eyes, a nose and ears to their picture.

Large Scale Painting

Nursery 2s have been using the paint rollers to paint on the cling film. They have been reaching up high and down low to develop their gross motor skills.

Cards for the Care Home

Reception Created their own Christmas Cards to give to the Ladies and Gentlemen at Park Lodge.

Calendars

Nursery 2s have been making calendars for 2024 by dabbing paint around a star with cotton wool in a peg to help strengthen their hand muscles. It was a very messy job.

Firework Printing

Reception used different shapes to create firework patterns. 

Rangoli Patterns

Nursery 3s have enjoyed exploring Rangoli patterns as part of their Diwali learning! They used the different loose parts and added them on top of the drawing. They talked about Diwali and used new vocabulary!

Jackson Pollock

The Nursery 3s children have been looking at art work by the American artist Jackson Pollock. They copied his technique of splatter painting to create their own fire work pictures. The children listened well and were able to follow the instructions to keep the brush from touching the paper and watching as the paint dropped and drizzled off the brush and made marks onto the paper.
 

Firework Pictures

The Nursery 3s children enjoyed creating their own firework pictures. They used glue and glitter to create the effect and talked about watching fireworks over the weekend!

Halloween Pumpkins

The Nursery 3s children used a variety of craft materials to create some scary Halloween pumpkins. We talked about facial features and where the eyes, nose and mouth go.
 

Halloween Stones

During their muddy Monday's session the Nursery 3s children have enjoyed decorating and creating scary Halloween stones. The children used their imagination and creative skills to paint the stones, they showed control in their tools and selected which colour paints they wanted to use to create a desired effect!

Happy Halloween

During the day, Reception have been taking part in lots of fun activities. The children chose which spooky silhouette they wanted to make paintings of, we used our finger prints to create a silhouette painting. We spoke about what would happen when we took the picture away and if we would see any paint underneath. The children also used diffrent coloured pieces of paper to create a collage on their pumpkins. In the Tuff tray the children got busy creating halloween potions too. 

Reception Spa Day

As it was our Early years well being day we had a very relaxing Spa day in Reception. The children had a Foot bath, Hand and Foot Massages, and their Nails painted. The Children enjoyed playing Hair dressers too and even got Miss Wilson and Miss Hardon involved.

Colour Monster Feelings Jars

During Early Years Well-Being Week Nursery 3s have been reading the colour monster story. The children created their own feelings jars just like in the story! The children each decided on the colour they wanted to do and could say which emotion this colour was. They coloured in the jars before adding collage materials such as paper, using the glue. We continued to discuss our own emotions throughout the day and the children have made some insightful comments!

Spa Day

In Nursery 2s, as part of the Early years well being week today the children have had a lovely relaxed morning having a spa day. They laid under a blanket and we put cucumbers on their eyes as they relaxed, they had hand massages and put their feet in the foot spa. They used the water colours and paintbrushes to paint finger nails and they enjoyed cake and sparkling water for snack, they then did some yoga. What a lovely morning we have all had.

Autumn Wands

Nursery 2s created their very own Autumn wands. They used cut up leaves and glitter to make the wand, and then they decorated the handles with sequins. They were amazing.

Self Portraits

Nursery 3s have been painting self portraits! They children looked in the mirror to talk about their features. We talked about what made us special and unique!

Decorating Fish

Nursery 2s have been decorating fish using glue, sequins and glitter. We talked about the fish swimming around the sea.

Fun Run Flags

Nursery 2s used diffrent coloured pieces of paper and stuck them onto a flag each. We then took our flags outside to wave and support the children doing the Fun Run.

Fire Engines

Nursery 2s have been painting their own Fire engines.   A Fire engine was placed on the table for the children to copy. We talked about the different colours and parts of the engine. As they painted I discussed with them which part they would like to paint next and which colour they needed to use. Well done Nursery 2s, we are very impressed with your end products.

Bumble Bee Hats

Nursery 2s have been learning all about bees as it is National Bee Week. We have read the Bumble Bear story, all about Norman the bear who wants to be a bee. We then made Bumble bee hats so that we looked like Norman The Bumble Bear. The children spread the glue on the black tissue paper and added them to their hat to make the bee's stripes.

Animal Hand Print

The children in nursery 3's enjoyed choosing which animal they would like to have their hand painted like.

We viewed different images on the iPad as they made their decision. They then matched the colour paints to the animals and then had their hand painted. “It tickles.” “It’s cold.”
Once the paint was dried, they used different coloured pens to draw their animal features to their hand print.

Painting Daffodils

Nursery 2s have had ago at some still life painting. We put some daffodils in the middle of the table, I modelled what I wanted them to do. We talked about the stem, the flower and petals and the colours that we needed to use. They then had ago at painting a daffodil themselves. They all did very well.

Chicks

Nursery 2s made their very own chicks. They used their hands for the body and added on the beak and legs. We then used them to decorate the classroom.

Easter Printing

Nursery 2s made bunny and Egg prints on a large piece of paper, using toilet roll tubes. 

Claude Monet

Nursery 3s artist focus this half term is Claude Monet. They read a book which is inspired by his paintings called “where’s the frog” and then looked at different paintings, talking about what they could see in them and the colours used. The children then used watercolors to make their own Claude Monet inspired art work! The children were all able to confidently hold their paintbrushes and talk about what they were doing!

Valentines Day

In Reception we made Valentines cards for the people we love. 

Spray Painting

Nursery 3's  talked about what they already knew about Holi. They discussed that people throw colours and coloured water at each other and sometimes even use water guns and spray bottles! The children used spray bottles to spray coloured water against the paper. They talked about the different colours and how far the paint was going. Some of the children also used different sized paint brushes on the large paper outside. These activities promoted turn taking and the development of fine motor skills!

Colour Mixing

Following our topic of Holi, the Hindu festival of colour and spring, the Nursery 3's children used prime colour paints to create a variety of new colours. The children painted their hands and then rubbed hands with their partner to create a new colour. The children guessed and made predictions on what colours they could make.
 

Paper Dolls

The Nursery 3's children enjoyed listening to the story 'paper dolls' when focusing on Julia Donaldson. They helped recite the tale and where able to say parts of the story.
They then used their imagination and creative skills to decorate their own paper dolls using a variety of craft resources.

Valentines Craft

The Nursery 3's children created their own Valentines craft to give to their loved ones. They were able to confidently cut the materials using differentiated scissors then used to glue to stick the materials down. The children talked about their loved ones and who their Valentine will be!

Making a Chinese Dragon

As we have been celebrating Chinese New Year we decided that we would make a Chinese dragon in Nursery 2s. The children had lots of fun painting their hands and making handprints on the dragons body. We have put our Chinese dragon above our curiosity cube which has Chinese resources in for the children to talk about.

Chopstick Painting

Following our topic on Chinese New Year, today the children in Nursery 3s used chop sticks to make marks and paint, looking at different numerals in Chinese.

Chinese New Year Lanterns

Nursery 3s have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. We watched a video on how people prepare for Chinese New Year, then the children discussed what they had seen. The children were able to confidently recap that the people in the video made lanterns, drew Chinese symbols and had some food. The children then decorated their own lanterns, using red materials which is seen as a lucky colour, so that we can prepare our classroom for Chinese New Year. They shared the resources really well and used one handed tools such as scissors, glue and crayons!

Friendship Pie

The Nursery 3s children enjoyed working together to make a friendship pie.
The children controlled their spoons and scoops to add their ingredients in to the bowl. They mixed it together and talked about what things we would like out of our friendship pie. The children gave good ideas of: “sharing,” “helping each other” and “being nice.” “I’m making my pie for you.” The children communicated well with each other and worked together.

Friendship Bracelets

During Anti-Bullying week our Nursery 3s children created friendship bracelets by threading beads on to pipe cleaners, developing their fine motor skills. Throughout their time in Early Years we ensure we give the children the skills they need for their transition into Year 1. This particular skill will progress into sewing and textile art units. 

Jackson Pollock

During Bonfire Night Nursery 3's participated in an artist study on Jackson Pollock, whose work resembles fireworks. The children studied different art pieces, commenting on and asking questions about each one. They then used the same technique to splatter marks across paper with paint, creating their own artwork in response. 

Firework Pictures

The Nursery 3's children used different techniques to create their own firework pictures. The children drizzled their glue, moving it around to make patterns on their card. They then had to use pincer control to sprinkle to glitter over the glue to create amazing and colourful fireworks. The children talked about the colours they seen when they watched the fire works.

Witch's Kitchen

Nursery 3's created potions in the 'Witch's Kitchen' during Halloween. They experimented with colour changing and adding bicarbonate soda to make them bubble, discussing what was happening when they did so. The children used mathematical language such as 'full' 'heavy' and 'more' throughout their play. 

Decorating Pumpkins

Nursery 3's enjoyed decorating their salt dough pumpkins using paint and glitter. The children independently picked out which 'spooky' colours they thought we should use and experimented with mixing and changing the colours. 

Salt Dough Pumpkins

Nursery 3's made salt dough to create their own Halloween decorations. They measured out and mixed the ingredients, then molded their dough into a ball. The children then used string to make indentations in the dough to create a pumpkin design. 

Berry Painting

During Muddy Monday's the Nursery 3's children went on a berry hunt. They discussed where they might find berries and offered comments about the different berries they found. They then crushed up the berries and used them to paint!

Salt Dough Diva Lamps

Nursery 3's created salt dough diva lamps as part of our Diwali celebrations, then decorated them with bright colours and glitter!

Diwali Necklaces

The children in Nursery 3's created necklaces as part of our Diwali celebrations. They painted and decorate pasta and then thread the pasta tubes on to a variety of materials, such as string, wool and ribbon, developing their fine motor skills. 

Rangoli Patterns

The Nursery 3's children used paint brushes to decorate and create Rangoli patterns, exploring colours and developing their fine motor control. They talked about shapes they were painting and made their own paints by adding water to grated chalk.

Colour Monster Feelings Jars

As part of Early Years Well-being week Nursery 3s have been focusing on the story 'The Colour Monster.' They talked about the different emotions throughout the story and were say what made them happy, sad, angry and scared. The children then created their own feelings jars collages using crayons, pom poms, feathers, glitter and glue!

Playdough Hedgehogs

Nursery 2s have been making hedgehogs using play dough for the body, match sticks, pasta, buttons and pine cones for their spikes. Some of the children used a rolling pin to roll the play dough. Others rolled the play dough into a ball using their hands.

Autumn Nature Faces

Nursery 2s have been making Autumnal faces with resources that they found on the school field. They talked about the features on their own faces and were able to show where these features were on their own face.

Conker Rolling

Nursery 3s rolled conkers to make marks with the paint, creating some collaborative artwork!

Autumn Playdough

The children used Autumn objects they collected during muddy Monday's within their playdough. They independently created faces and pictures in the playdough using the objects, or sculptures such as boats!

Receptions Self Portraits

The children in reception have done a great job painting their own self portraits. 

Autumn Leaf Creatures

During Muddy Mondays Nursery 3s created Autumn leaf creatures using leaves, googly eyes and pipe cleaners! 

Autumn Tree Finger Painting

Nursery 3s have been focusing on 'Autumn.' The children enjoyed creating autumn leaf finger paitings, discussing the different colours!
