EYFS

Can you build a beanstalk?

The children have used their fine motor control to thread the green Cheerios onto different types of materials, such as straws and pipe cleaners, with some being easier to thread then others. The children showed excellent focus and concentration and they were able to control the Cheerios using trial and error.
 

Chinese Dragon Dancing

Nursery 3s watched some videos of Chinese dragon dancing on the board as part of our Chinese New Year learning. The children then used to scarves to do their own dancing, moving the scarves in their arms and jumping up and down. They then went under the material like on the videos they had watched and pretending to be the dancers inside the dragon costumes!

At the Circus- PE

Reception have been pretending they were at the circus; they balanced like tightrope walkers, juggled like clowns, did bear walks as if they were on a trapeze and jumped across dots. Well done Reception

Phunky Foods

Reception were very lucky this afternoon and had a visit from Suzy from Phunky Foods. They began the session by reading the story the ‘Priti Loves Pineapple’ before trying some different fruits. The children learned that they had to eat the rainbow and then coloured one in to remind them. Well done Reception!

Football

Nursery 2s joined in with Football day. They showed some amazing Football skills. Well Done!

Football Day

As it was Schools Football Day, Reception took part in some fun Football activities. The activities included, Dribbling, Penalty shootout and then finally a Football game. Reception played really well together and showed lots of patience and teamwork skills. Well Done Reception.

Firework Dancing

Reception continued with the theme of fireworks this week in PE, the children worked together to chose some dance moves. They counted counts of 4 for each move and kept in time with each other. Well done Reception, you were fantastic fireworks!

PE

In our dance session we were moving like fireworks, we used our bodies to create explosive movements and then used scarves to create the fireworks. Well done Reception!

Multi Skills

Reception spent an afternoon at Beacon Hill taking part in lots of diffrent Sporting activities. The Children loved it. On or way back we said Hello to the Goat. 

Moving 2 Write

During their moving 2 write session the Nursery 3s focused on the diagonal line. The children began the session by playing balloon tennis, passing the balloon to each other and keeping it off the floor. They then threw the bean bag to one an other and were encouraged to catch the small bean bag. The children then practiced drawing a magic diagonal line by placing their arm up to the sky, stretch it over and then move the opposite leg out to make a diagonal shape with the body. The children had to move in different ways to go from Karen to Miss Wilkinson who where stood diagonal across from each other. They then practiced drawing the diagonal line using chalks.
 

Moving 2 Write

During their moving 2 write session, the Nursery 3's focused on the square shape. The children used one hand to tap the balloon and bean bag up into the air. They went on a shape hunt to find square objects. They used sticks to create the square shape. The children played hop scotch and played a game of Simon says. The children then practiced drawing the square shape with chalks.
 

Moving 2 Write

During their fifth moving 2 write session Nursery 3's focused on the diagonal line. The children played balloon tennis, passing the ball back and forth using opposite hands. They made a superman pose stretching up one arm and the opposite leg. They popped bubbles stretching up and using their pointing finger. They danced around and moved their bodies using scarfs, again making the superman pose. The children then practiced drawing diagonal lines using the chalk. 

Diwali Dancing

For our PE we followed some Diwali inspired dance routines. Well done Reception, super moves!

Moving 2 Write

During their moving to write session the Nursery 3s children focused on the cross. The children started as usual by throwing the big ball to each other and saying their favourite colour. The children sang the dingle dangle scarecrow song and then learned how to play stuck in the mud, which they really enjoyed! The children looked around our outside area for resources we could turn into a cross then drew their own crosses using the chalk!

Fine Motor Fireworks

The Nursery 3s children have started their learning about bonfire night! They developed their fine motor skills by threading pipe cleaners through colanders to create “fireworks.” The children talked about fireworks with each other as they did this!

Moving 2 Write

During their third moving to write session the Nursery 3s children focused on the circle.
They practiced using their magic finger to draw a circle in the air. They moved the ball from one person to the next, revisiting the cross lateral movement. The children used their arms and legs to make circles and moved their bodies to get through the hoop. The children then used chalks to draw different sized circles, before jumping in out of them. Finally, the children enjoyed going on a circle treasure hunt, searching the outdoor area for different circle objects, they were very good at this!

Multi- Skills

Reception, spent the afternoon at Beacon Hill joining in with some multi-skills; we did activities like ladder runs, bean bag throws and bowling. The children had lots of fun, well done Reception.

Spider Fine Motor Threading

The Nursery 3's children have developed their fine motor skills by threading beads onto the spiders legs. The children were able to maintain concentration at this activity for a long period of time and displayed good control when manipulating the beads!

Moving 2 Write

During their second Moving 2 Write session, the Nursery 3's practiced the horizontal line. The children practiced catching the ball and passing the ball from one side to the next. We made horizontal lines with our bodies as we sang and done the actions to sleepy bunnies. They children scored goals and took part in an an obstacle course. The children then used chalks to draw their horizontal lines.

Muddy Monday's Spiders Web

During Muddy Monday's the Nursery 3's children experimented with different ways of moving through the giant spiders web. This included crawling under and stepping over! 

Dancing

Reception enjoyed joining in with some dancing this week. They had to follow the routine that was played on the board. 

Moving 2 Write

Nursery 3s enjoyed having a moving 2 write session, in partnership with Cumberland county council. The children did a variety of activities to support early writing using physical movements. These included stretches and large movements. The children then focused on and practiced writing the vertical line. 

Controlling a rolling Ball

This week in PE Reception have been  working on controlling a rolling ball, the children went forwards and backwards making sure the ball did not roll away from them. 

Conker and Spoon Races

The Nursery 3's children enjoyed taking part in a conker and spoon race. They had to balance the conker on their spoon and get to the finish line with out it rolling off. 

Gruffalo Yoga

Reception enjoyed joining in with Yoga. They moved their body along with the story. 

Witches and Wizards

Reception really enjoyed their first PE Lesson. they played different games all to do with being Witches and Wizards.

Spiders, Butterfly's and Dung beetles

In Reception we have been doing some exciting warm ups including pretending to be Spiders and Butterflies. We have also been practicing our Ball skills. We pretended to be Dung Beetles and Rolled the Tennis Balls around the cones. We then ended the lesson rolling balls to hit the cones. 

Busy Bees and Rolling

In Receptions PE lesson the children pretended to be bees, They flew around collecting Pollen and then they flew back to the Hive. They then practiced rolling footballs and Tennis balls around the Cones. 

Yoga

Nursery 3s enjoyed a morning yoga session! They followed the story of ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’ and worked hard to do the different poses and move their bodies in new ways! At the end the children practiced some mindfulness! 

Scissor control

The children in nursery 3's have shown absolutely amazing cutting skills. They had to carefully use their scissors to cut around the different objects that they want to go inside their doctors bag, following our interest of People who help us.
The children maintained focus, concentration and determination.
They used trial and error to either move the paper around or move the scissors to cut out the object.

Obstacle Course

On nursery 3's muddy Mondays session we have created a small obstacle course. The children chose where the string should go to create the course. The children then chose different ways of moving to get across the course. They used positional language of over and under. Some children jumped and hopped over the string too.

Yoga

Reception really enjoy doing some Cosmic Kids Yoga in our PE lessons. 

Bollywood Dancing

Nursery 3's decided to join in with some Bollywood dancing when learning about Holi. They watched the movements on the video before doing the themselves, as well as creating their own movements to the music.
 

Daily Mile Track/Climbing Equipment

The Nursery 3's children explored the large outdoor play equipment and daily mile track. The children ran around the running track in different ways and used the wooden adventure play to develop their physical skills, climbing, balancing and finding ways to get across the obstacles.

Outdoor Climbing Equipment

Nursery 3's explored the outdoor area during their Muddy Monday's session. The children used the wooden adventure playground. They had to use a variety of ways of moving to get around the play equipment. The children practiced their balancing, they had to climb up, over and under.
 

Cosmic Kids Yoga

Nursery 3's took part in a Cosmic Kids Yoga video, where they followed the story of 'Coco the butterfly.' The children showed control over their own bodies, balancing on one foot with confidence. They were able to copy the different poses and listen to instructions carefully. 

Funky Fingers

Nursery 3s and Reception children develop their fine motor skills through continuous provision every day, one resource which is very popular is our funky finger boards. The children work hard to stretch the bands over the hooks and screw the nuts on to the bolts! 

Obstacle Course

In Nursery 2s, we created a Obstacle course. The Children ran around the course multiple times using different movements to get through the hoops.

We're Going On A Bear Hunt

Nursery 3's have been reading 'we're going on a bear hunt' during National Storytelling Week and went into the outdoor area to go on their own bear hunt. The moved their bodies in different ways such as crawling, tip-toeing and running, as well as navigating through different obstacles. 

Dancing with Ribbons

Nursery 2s have been dancing with ribbons to a Chinese dragon dance while playing outside. They copied the different moves that the dragon was making on the screen.

Fine Motor Skills

Nursery 3s used the tweezers to pick out the wiggly worms from the garden, showing good hand eye coordination and control of the tweezers.

Throwing and Catching

In Reception we have been practicing our ball skills where we have been throwing, bouncing and catching to each other, we aim to develop these skills over the next few weeks. 

Dough Disco

Nursery 3s regularly engage with dough discos each week to develop their fine motor skills. This activity also helps to develop children's overall dexterity and hand eye coordination, supporting children's early writing development. 

Cutting Skills

Nursery 3s currently have a whole class next step to develop their cutting skills. The children used a range of scissors to cut up card. The children extended their activity independently by adding in glue and craft materials. 

Pumpkin Mark Making

The children in Nursery 3's helped to paint the leftover pumpkins in class with chalk paint, which they then used for mark making. The children drew faces, squiggles, shapes and some children even wrote their name. This activity enabled the children to develop their fine motor skills. 

Navigating Obstacles

Nursery 3's used the traffic cones to create obstacles on the road outside. They used their bikes/scooters to navigate around the cones successfully, showing excellent coordination skills!

Preparing Snack

The children in Nursery 3's helped to prepare their healthy snack. They used the knives competently and discussed how to stay safe when doing so. They also discussed with an adult the importance of eating a healthy snack and balanced diet. 

Fine Motor Rangoli Patterns

The Nursery 3's children spent a long period of time creating Rangoli patterns using different sized buttons. Each child developed their fine motor skills by picking up the buttons to put them in certain places on the Rangoli pattern template. Whilst working the children discussed the different buttons they were using, talking about their properties.

Outdoor Yoga

As part of Early Years Well-Being week Nursery 3s took part in some outdoor yoga. We discussed the names of different poses and the children worked hard to move their bodies correctly and hold their balance! 

Autumn Threading

Nursery 3s developed their fine motor skills by threading laces through the Autumn cards!

Bubbles

 Nursery 2s have had so much fun, playing with Bubbles. They have been dancing to Baby Shark and using different methods to pop the bubbles. Such as clapping, flicking and popping.

Conker and Spoon Races

Nursery 3s used their hand eye coordination and balancing skills to rake part in conker and spoon races! 

Daily Mile Track

Nursery 3's love running around the daily mile track, some children can even now run around three times without stopping!

PE in Reception

In Reception we have been spending time learning the basic principles of PE such as finding space, freezing on command, using and sharing equipment and working individually, with a partner and a group. We will be moving on to develop fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping and skipping over the term.

The children have also enjoyed running on the mile track as often as we can. 

Cosmic Kids Yoga

Nursery 3s engaged in Comic Kids yoga, following the story of Squish the Fish. The children showed good balance and control over their own bodies. Everyone was very relaxed at the end!
