Year 6

Cricket

We learn a range of skills in cricket in year six.  We learn to bowl accurately with a run up, as well as how to field efficiently and effectively to keep the opposition run rate down.  Additionally, we learn how to hold the cricket bat correctly, in order to play a range of different scoring shots, and how to use the bespoke cricket scoring system.

Badminton

In badminton in year six, we learn how to perform a forehand and back hand serve, an overheard clearance, and a smash shot, as well as other important skills such as footwork.

Orienteering

During our orienteering PE lessons, we learn the meaning of all the different symbols on the orienteering map.  We also learn the importance of always keeping the map pointing in the same direction, allowing us to navigate the different points effectively.

Volleyball

In our volleyball unit, we learn how to overarm serve with accuracy and power.  We also learn how to set the ball to our team mate, using both the underarm and overarm set technique.

Gymnastics

During our gymnastics unit, we learn how to perform a range of counter balances, as well as challenging individual balances.  Following this, we practise performing a range of movements including; forward rolls, backward rolls, head stands, hand stands and cartwheels. We then look to put these into fluid sequences in small groups.

Tag Rugby

In tag rugby, we build on our prior knowledge and skills to develop our understanding of the rules and to know how to make effective decisions under pressure.
