History Curriculum Intent
Children need a sense of history in order to understand themselves, their identity and the world around them. They need to be able to ask questions and evaluate the answers they receive - never settling for a shallow answer and pushing for a deeper explanation. History should inspire curiosity and desire to never stop wanting to find out more.
As a school, it is our aim to instill a love of History in all our children. We work hard to provide an interesting and varied curriculum that interests and intrigues our children while meeting the needs of all backgrounds, cultures and abilities. From EYFS up to the end of KS2, the children will be taught about various historical events and famous historical figures, some of which have shaped the world today. We will create every opportunity to link History to other subjects. Staff will follow their curriculum maps to ensure progression throughout the school.
History Skills and Curriculum coverage
We have worked closely with our feeder Secondary school to create a History Curriculum, that supports Early Years through to KS4. We feel it is important for the children to build upon previous knowledge to gain a secure understanding of the Historical concepts. Each unit is designed using enquiry questions allowing the children to build upon previous knowledge and reflect upon a challenge activity.
