Year 4

Why Is Our World Wonderful?

In this unit, Year 4 explore how our Earth is constructed as well as discovering the role tectonic plates have in the creation of mountains and volcanoes.  Children have the opportunity to make decisions about whether or not they would want to live near an active volcano.  Children consider the social and economic impact of natural disasters such as volcanoes and earthquakes.  They also observe and record the location and characteristics of rocks found around the school grounds.

Where Does Our Food Come From?

In this unit, Year 4 explore where our food comes from and pupils discuss which foods have the most significant negative impact on the environment.  They develop their atlas skills by looking at the regions of the world where cocoa beans originate from and the food miles they travel to reach us in the UK.
