Year 4

Changing States

Year 4 take a practical approach to learning about how different materials can change state. We explore how particles in solids, liquids and gasses behave differently.  Pupils investigate how substances like chocolate, wax and butter alter depending on temperature.

Electricity

The electricity topic is one of Year 4's best loved science topics.  Pupils have lots of practical opportunities to build circuits using bulbs, batteries, switches and buzzers.  Pupils get to explore which materials conduct electricity as well as which materials are insulators.

Changing Sounds

Year 4 enjoy taking a practical approach to investigating how sounds are made though exploring the different vibrations made by instruments.  Pupils get the opportunity to make their own instruments and work out how to adjust the pitch their instruments make.

Living Things and their Habitats

During this unit, Year 4 have enjoyed learning about local habitats around our school grounds. We used classification keys to work out how animals and plants can be grouped and how climate change can cause habitats to change.

Eating and Digestion

We had a fantastic Science week learning about animal food chains, types of teeth and our digestive system. We carried out an interesting experiment to see what effects different liquids have on causing tooth decay. It was lots of fun!
