Baking

Reception have been really busy making cakes to sell at our Easer Bake sale. 

Gingerbread Man Traps

The Nursery 3s children left a camera out overnight and found a video of some gingerbread men loose in the classroom! After the children realised the gingerbread men had escaped the oven they decided to use the Lego to make their own traps. They thought carefully bout their structures and explained how their traps worked. The children left their traps out overnight and were delighted to find the gingerbread men caught in their traps the next morning. 

Baking Gingerbread Men

The Nursery 3s children were excellent at baking their own gingerbread men after reading the story. They followed the instructions to mix the ingredients together and use the cutter to cut out a gingerbread man shape! Later on they decorated their biscuits and realised some were missing...

Gingerbread Man Bridges

The Nursery 3s children used different materials to build bridges for the gingerbread man to cross the river safely! They all had different ideas on the types of bridge they wanted to build and uses joining and connecting skills!

Chinese Buildings

Nursery 3s spent some time looking at Chinese buildings and landmarks, such as temples and the Great Wall of China! The children then used the blocks to recreate these or imagine their own!

Chinese Dragons

 The children have enjoyed using junk modelling materials to create their own Chinese Dragons whilst learning about Chinese New Year. The children made their own choice on what they wanted to use and how they wanted to create them. They had a variety of tools, materials and resources to choose from.
 

Pancake Day

Nursery 3s enjoyed learning about and celebrating Pancake Day! They have talked about why people celebrate pancake day and what Lent is. Then the children made their own pancakes. They mixed the ingredients together and then enjoyed eating them with their favourite topping!

Making Bird Feeders

This week is national bird watching week. To celebrate this Nursery 2s have making bird feeders to put outside to see what kind of birds we can attract. Once the storm has passed we will take them out and place them in the trees on the school field. We will watch to see which birds come to eat our seed. We talked about birds not being able to find much food to eat in the cold weather and thats why we are making them some bird feeders to help them survive.

Nests

As it is Bird Watching week this week, Nursery 2s have made their own chocolate Nests. The children showed really good patience even when it was hard not to eat the chocolate. They cant wait to try them at home!

Binoculars

As it is Bird watching week Nursery 2s  made and decorated Binoculars. The children used different shapes and colours to make them look beautiful! Can’t wait to hear what they have seen through them!

Muddy Mondays

We participated in a very cold Muddy Mondays session. We started off with discussing about our senses. The children were able to explain and give an example of each whilst outside. We then played ‘Go find it’. The children had lots of fun running around to find a piece of nature that explained the cards. We were so impressed. Next we made Nature Bracelets, we looked very closely along the ground to find things to stick to our bracelets, the end results were beautiful! After a very busy afternoon we had Hot Chocolate and biscuits.

Christmas Jumper Day 2023

 For Christmas jumper day, Nursery 2s  have been designing their own Christmas jumpers using glue and different collage materials. We have talked about why we are wearing our Christmas jumpers and that it is to raise money for Save the children.

Angel Decorations

The Nursery 3's children have been creating angel tree decorations to decorate the Christmas tree in the local church. The children have used a variety of tools and resources to create their angel such as the cold glue gun. The children have listened really well and showed excellent control in using the new tool.

Muddy Mondays - Christmas Decorations

During their Muddy Mondays session, the Nursery 3's children have created a tree decoration. The children used the hammers to hammer nails in to the wooden logs. They showed amazing control of the hammer and listened really well to the adults guidance. They then chose their colour wool and wrapped and threaded it around the nails. 

Building Boats

As part of their World Nursery Rhyme Week learning, Nursery 3's children created their own boats for the rhyme 'row, row, row your boat.' The children carefully selected the junk modelling materials they wanted to use and talked about their ideas for their boats. Later, they tested out their boats in the water tray!

Muddy Mondays

Due to the weather Reception stayed indoors for muddy Mondays. We talked about the reasons why and how we need to keep safe during the weather. The children then discussed items of clothing they would wear on a day like today. We read the story Ellies Magic Wellies, the children then created their own a magic Wellies.

Chapati Making

To celebrate Diwali we have made and tasted some chapatis. The children had some fantastic baking skills stirring, mixing and pouring the mixture. They said they tasted delicious and would all like to make them at home.

Diwali Necklaces

Nursery 3s enjoyed creating their own Diwali necklaces. The children used pasta, beads and buttons and practiced threading these on to wool. They then wore these throughout the morning. Some children said they were going to give theirs to others as a gift, as this is what we learned happens from our Diwali book!

Diva Lamps

As part of their Diwali learning, Nursery 3s made their own Diva Lamps. The children made their own salt dough by following a method, then shaped their lamps into the desired shape. Once they were dry the children decorated their lamps with paint and glitter.

Firework Biscuits

Nursery 3s enjoyed decorating biscuits to represent fire works. We talked about it being bonfire night at the weekend and about fireworks and the sounds they make, and the different colours they may be. The children planned what items they were going to use then used icing, sprinkles and icing pens to create their own firework biscuit.

Halloween Baking

Reception have been very busy the past few days, making Chocolate Cupcakes for our Bake sale tomorrow. The children had a go at using the electric hand mix and enjoyed decorating the Cup cakes.

Muddy Mondays

In Receptions Muddy Monday session,  the children have been foraging. The children explored to find different pieces that they admired. They then used these pieces to create some rubbings, they were beautiful. Well done Reception!🍁☘️🌻

 

Friendship Pie

Nursery 3s spent some time talking about what makes a good friend, the children shared some fantastic ideas such as sharing, being kind and giving cuddles. The children then used the playdough to make friendship pies! They talked to each other about the ingredients and tools they were using and impressed me with their sharing and turn taking skills!

Making Necklaces

In Nursery 2s we made our own necklaces. First of all we painted the Pasta shapes to make them look colourful. When they were dry we threaded them onto some string to create a Necklace. We looked very Smart!

Flower Letters

Nursery 3's picked some flowers from the field.  We then used them to practice the letters in our name. The children said the familiar letter, and helped the adult to form the large letter onto the card. The children used the pen to pierce holes on their letter. They then used their hand eye coordination and fine motor control to push the flower through and create their name.
These looked fantastic.

Coronation Scones

The children in nursery 3's have been busy baking, making some coronation scones.
The children worked together to measure and weigh the ingredients following the recipe. They showed excellent control of their tools and responded well to the adults direction.
During the activity we used mathematical language and looked at numerals as we weighed out the ingredients.
The children mixed the dough with their hands and used descriptive language. “It’s sticky.” “It’s soft.” “It’s so gooey.”

Once the scones where cooked the children added butter and jam to them, carefully using a knife, and tried them for snack. “These are delicious.” “ there so yummy.”

Making Birds Nests

To celebrate Easter Nursery 2s  have been making birds nests using chocolate, shredded wheat and mini eggs. The children washed their hands before we started. All of the children had ago at crumbling up the shredded wheat into the chocolate, stirring the mixture together and scooped it into the bun cases. They then counted 2 mini eggs into their nest. We discussed that we would put them in the fridge to set. The children will take these home to enjoy.

Rainbow Toast

When focusing on the topic of Holi, the Nursery 3's children created rainbow coloured toast. They added food colouring to milk and then carefully controlled their paint brushes to paint on their bread, creating rainbow and colourful bread. They then helped to toast their creations in the toaster with support from the adults, before enjoying their toast for snack!

Making Snack

Nursery 2s have loved making their own snack. We talked about how sharp knives are and that we mustn't touch them. They put their own fruit onto their plates and waited patiently for their Bagels.

Gruffalo Crumble

The Nursery 3's children enjoyed reading different Julia Donaldson stories throughout the week leading up to world book day. The first story we read was The Gruffalo. The children then made their own Gruffalo crumble. They helped to chop up and measure out the ingredients, stir the mixture, colour sort the smarties and decorate our traybake!

Pancake Day

The Nursery 3's children enjoyed making pancakes to celebrate pancake day! We talked about what pancake day was and why we celebrate it. The children helped to make the batter which we cooked on a gas stove. We discussed how to stay safe near the stove. The children then picked their toppings, talking about their likes and dislikes, before eating their pancakes! We are so proud of all the children as every single one of them had a try!

Weaving

Nursery 3's enjoyed practicing their weaving skills on our large outdoor weaving frame. This enables our Early Years children to develop the foundational skills needed for sewing when they enter KS1. 

Valentines Biscuits

The Nursery 3's children have made special valentine's biscuits. They weighed out their ingredients using a spoon to scoop them into a bowl and we looked at the numbers on the recipe and matched them to the numbers on the weighing scales. The children then used their hands to squash and squeeze the mixture into a dough. They then used a heart cutter to create their heart shaped biscuits. The children enjoyed choosing which treats they wanted to put on their biscuits to decorate.
 

Binoculars

Nursery 3s have been taking part in The Big Garden Birdwatch. They developed their gluing and sticking skills to create their own binoculars. The children took these outside and searched for the different type of birds.

Bird Feeders

The Nursery 3s children used their physical skills to scoop, mix, tip and pour to create bird feeders. They used their spoons to scoop the seeds into the butter and mix them together. They then had to scoop out the orange and re fill it with the bird food.
We talked about what else we could feed the birds.
“I give the birds my crusts.”
“They like to eat worms,”

We then had a look at videos and images of the different type of birds before taking our bird feeders outside for The Big Garden Birdwatch. 

Construction Zone

Some of the Nursery 3s children had a blast in our construction zone! This was set up as a lot of the nursery children have recently shown a key interest in construction/builder role play. The children used the pipettes to squeeze water into the sand to create ‘cement,’ which helps to develop their fine motor skills and pincer muscles. The children then used the cement to build up towers and walls. There was lots of language and vocabulary used throughout the activity! “The cement is turning in to concrete” “I’m building the Great Wall of China!” “Im building a tower for t” “it’s real, it’s sticking together!”

Apple Crumble

The Nursery 3s children have been focusing on the 'a' sound in Read, Write, Inc. Following their speed sound lesson the children made apple crumble. They independently chopped the apples and helped to measure out the ingredients. 

Mince Pies

In Nursery 2s, we made our very own Mince pies. We were very impressed with the children’s listening and understanding.

Children in need - Pudsey Biscuits

Whilst celebrating Children in need 2022 the Nursery 3s children decorated their own Pudsey biscuits. They created their own icing and used their fine motor skills to decorate. 

Children in need - Pudsey Bear Cupcakes

For Children in Need, Nursery 2s baked some Pudsey cupcakes. I was so impressed with their turn taking and patience. When the cupcakes were ready we decorated them with Butter icing and smarties.

World Nursery Rhyme Week - Building a pirate ship

During World Nursery Rhyme week the children learned the rhyme 'The Big Ship Sails' in Nursery 3's. Outside they worked together to build their own ship using the large construction, complete with a flag, canons and a plank!

Salt Dough Pumpkins

Nursery 3's made salt dough to create their own Halloween decorations. They measured out and mixed the ingredients, then molded their dough into a ball. The children then used string to make indentations in the dough to create a pumpkin design. 

Halloween

In Nursery 2s we have been celebrating Halloween.  They have been using their fine motor skills to hammer the golf tees and wooden spinners into the pumpkin. They have also scooped up the jelly using spoons while finding the spiders which were buried among it.

Making Playdough

The children in Nursery 3's made their own Halloween playdough. They took it in turns to measure out the ingredients and mix them together. Once it was finished the children molded and shaped their playdough! 

Pumpkin Hammering

Nursery 3's used the different hammers to hammer golf tees into the pumpkins. Over the week we added differentiation to this activity, such as a variety of golf tee sizes and nails. By using their pincer grips the children developed their fine motor skills. 

Salt Dough Diva Lamps

Nursery 3's created salt dough diva lamps as part of our Diwali celebrations, then decorated them with bright colours and glitter!

Preparing Snack

The children in Nursery 3's helped to prepare their healthy snack. They used the knives competently and discussed how to stay safe when doing so. They also discussed with an adult the importance of eating a healthy snack and balanced diet. 

Making Gingerbread Men

Nursery 2s have been very busy making Gingerbread men, we were very impressed with everybody’s turn taking. 

Playdough Hedgehogs

Nursery 2s have been making hedgehogs using play dough for the body, match sticks, pasta, buttons and pine cones for their spikes. Some of the children used a rolling pin to roll the play dough. Others rolled the play dough into a ball using their hands.

Baking Shortbread

Nursery 3s enjoyed baking shortbread for our whole school Macmillan coffee morning! 

Gingerbread Man Traps

After baking Gingerbread men the children in Nursery 3s thought some may have escaped the oven! We left out a camera overnight and discovered the escaped gingerbread men were hiding in our classroom! The children used construction materials such as lego and wooden blocks to create traps for the gingerbread men!

Gingerbread Man Baking

Nursery 3s took part in baking Gingerbread men after showing a keen interest in the 'Gingerbread Man' story!
