‘If you believe, you will achieve’

A Welcome from our Chair of Governors Mrs J Rowlands

As the new Chair of Governors for Richmond Hill, I am delighted to be involved in the school at such an exciting time.  Our new vision, values and golden rule are carefully designed to help our school move forward and improve - our vision is that all children will experience a broad, balanced, coherent and consistent curriculum.  Our high expectations of behaviour of pupils is mirrored by high expectations of our staff and parents - only by working together positively can our children achieve their potential.  The key to helping our children achieve their potential is the rich spectrum of experiences that our children benefit from.  Our golden rule is as applicable to the school as a whole as to everyone involved in it - we always live by our values and always strive to do our best.  As we move forward, we welcome feedback from pupils, parents and other stakeholders so we can continually improve together - please contact the school office if you have any queries or comments that will help us on our journey.

The responsibilities of the governing body are wide and varied. These are just some examples of the areas that we deal with -

v  Establishing the overall strategic direction of the organisation

v  Act as employer of school teaching and support staff

v  Appoint staff.

v  Agree the Admissions Policy

v  Review the Head’s decisions on exclusions in specific circumstances.

v  Be responsible for the Health and Safety of pupils

v  Approve the School’s prospectus

v  Approve and monitor budget spend

v  Oversee the School’s Curriculum Policy

All School Governors are volunteers who hold enhanced DBS clearance, before they are appointed. All information passed to school governors is treated confidentially.

The Role of the Governing Body

The key purpose of the Governing Body is to help Richmond Hill Primary School provide the best possible education for all of our pupils.

We do this by:

♦ Setting the school’s values, vision and long-term aims and agreeing plans and policies

♦ Monitoring and evaluating performance, acting as a critical friend to the Head Teacher, to support and challenge her in managing the school

♦ Ensuring the school is accountable to you, your children, the Richmond Hill Community,

the local authority and our staff.

We achieve these aims in a number of ways:

♦ Full Governing Body meetings—currently once per term.

♦ Sub-Committee meetings several times a term, covering Curriculum, Finance & Staffing, Premises/Health & Safety and Wellbeing.

We also review the various policies that need reviewing along with adopting new ones when necessary.

♦ Attendance at special assemblies and other school events

♦ Regular meetings with the Head Teacher and other staff

♦ By linking a Governor to a key part of the curriculum or school improvement target to conduct monitoring visits.
School Development Plan
A significant responsibility for the governing body is to oversee, agree and monitor the annual School Development Plan that is drawn up at the start of each academic year.

When drawing up the plan input is taken from children, staff, parents and governors.
We look at what we do really well at Richmond Hill and what we would like to do even better.
