At the start of the year pupils learn and read a variety of stories in which monsters are defeated. They write in the style of authors like Ted Hughes, who wrote The Iron Man, then go on to write their own versions.

We use fictional texts we have read and enjoyed to inspire our poetry work and non-fiction texts too. We write our own detailed instructions on how to trap dangerous beasts.

We read a selection of stories based on warnings. Pupils learn, talk and map the model text before using it as a basis for their own work.
