Year 6

High Pike Fell Walk

In the summer term, we have a hike up High Pike, which is one of the 214 Wainwright fells. This allows us to explore and appreciate the area that we live in, as well as using teamwork and determination to complete the uphill challenge, to achieve a feeling of accomplishment when we reach the top - as well as getting to see some amazing views!

Victoria Tunnel WW2 Visit

For part of our WW2 history topic, we visited Victoria Tunnel in Newcastle, where over 9000 civilians sheltered from air raids during the war. We learnt about the role of air raid wardens, as well as how people got in and out of the tunnel and what they did to pass the time while staying safe.

Allonby Beach Visit

We carry out some fieldwork in our local area through a visit to our local beach in Allonby. We collect data on the amount of litter found along the coastline, as this is harmful to our oceans and its marine life. We then return to school to analyse the data and make conclusions.

Church Visit

We visit a local church to enhance our religious education curriculum, and understand some of the beliefs and values of Christianity. We learn to discuss key sections of the bible and respectfully give our views and opinions, and try to understand why Christians have certain beliefs. At school, we then compare what we have learnt about with other key religions of the world.

Stockswood Visit

Our visit to Stockswood allows us to develop our teamwork and communication skills through a range of outdoor learning activities. Our visit is also linked to our Living Things science topic, as we have the chance to go pond dipping and use insect observation equipment to find, study and compare a range of living things.
